Breaking: Terriers beat Bournemouth to clinch Old Trafford final spot

Huddersfield Town grabbed a place in the League One play-offs at Old Trafford after a thrilling 4-2 win on penalties against Bournemouth following a 3-3 extra-time stalemate.

Lee Peltier put the hosts in front in the 26th minute before Steve Lovell’s penalty levelled, although Danny Ward put Huddersfield 2-1 up at half-time.

Lovell equalised in the 63rd minute for extra-time, and goals from Danny Ings and Antony Kay resulted in penalties.

But Bournemouth missed two penalties as Town booked their final place.

Liam Feeney saw his weak effort saved by veteran Huddersfield goalkeeper Ian Bennett while Anton Robinson clattered his spotkick into the crossbar.

Huddersfield converted all of their efforts and Kay was mobbed by jubilant team-mates and fans when his penalty rebounded off the post and past the despairing dive of Bournemouth keeper Shwan Jalal.

The Terriers will play either Peterborough or the MK Dons in the final on Sunday 29 May at Old Trafford.

The dramatic finish capped off a superb second-leg semi-final packed full of goalmouth action at both ends.
