Brighton & HA v Huddersfield Town: Cadamarteri certain celebrations ahead

DANNY CADAMARTERI has one glaring omission on a CV that includes stints at a host of clubs, both north and south of the border – a promotion.

It is something the much-travelled 31-year-old is determined to put right in the coming weeks as Huddersfield Town chase a place in the Championship.

The Terriers, guaranteed a place in the play-offs several weeks ago, are firmly in the hunt for automatic promotion due to being locked on 83 points with Southampton.

Nigel Adkins’s Saints may be the overwhelming favourites to hold on to second place due to having a game in hand and a vastly superior goal difference.

But Cadamarteri, who returned to the Galpharm Stadium for a second spell in January from Dundee United, insists runners-up spot is well within Town’s grasp.

He said: “We have been doing well but, unfortunately, Southampton have been doing the same.

“To go half a season unbeaten is amazing. After a run like that, usually you would expect to have secured automatic promotion.

“But we still believe we can go on and win promotion. Brighton should be a great game.

“If we can get a win down there then that keeps the pressure on Southampton. We can’t affect what they do. All we can do is keep our fingers crossed.”

On ending the hunt for that elusive first promotion, the former Sheffield United, Leeds United and Bradford City striker added: “It is maybe surprising that a promotion hasn’t happened when you look at some of the clubs I have been at.

“Part of the reason why I left here in the first place was for career experiences. I didn’t want to leave but, at 29 or 30, I hadn’t achieved a lot in my career.

“So, the opportunity to go up to Scotland and do that was appealing. But, now I am back, I want that promotion.”

Town travel to the Withdean Stadium looking to extend a proud unbeaten record of 23 games that stretches back to the end of last year.

Cadamarteri said: “It is an amazing run and long may it continue.

“We have two games left to go. We want to remain unbeaten, get promotion and then go a minimum 21 games unbeaten next season in the Championship to say we have done a full campaign.”
