Bristol City 1 Rotherham United 1: Millers take point thanks to Matt Derbyshire and Lee Camp

Matt Derbyshire took advantage of a Football Association reprieve to fire the Millers in front after 12 minutes, but that was cancelled out by Peter Odemwingie’s crashing effort in the second half.

With MK Dons losing at home to Wolves, both sides settled for the draw, which means Rotherham are now six points clear of the drop zone.

For Neil Warnock’s side it was the continuation of an impressive run of form that sees them stretch their unbeaten run to seven games ahead of Saturday’s trip to Milton Keynes.

Lee Johnson’s men might consider themselves unlucky not to have won as they forced Millers goalkeeper Lee Camp into some fine saves.

The Millers took the lead in the 12th minute, with a top quality finish. Derbyshire, who started the day not knowing whether he was ineligible or not as the club were waiting on an appeal to his red card at the weekend, superbly plucked Richard Wood’s long ball out of the air and coolly lifted it over the on-rushing Richard O’Donnell.

Millers put 10 men behind the ball, but the home side would have been level had it not been for a superb save from Camp.

The hosts eventually got their reward with an equalising goal nine minutes after the restart.

The Millers failed to clear a cross and it fell to Odemwingie, who lashed home from 14 yards.

Bristol City would have fancied grabbing a quick second, but the Millers took the sting out of the game and came back into it well.

Richie Smallwood had a chance to restore their lead, but he fired over from the edge of the area and Joe Mattock’s free-kick was easy for O’Donnell.

Back came Bristol City and Camp was forced into another superb save as he got down low to keep out Odemwingie’s header.

Millers could have snatched the win as Danny Ward’s flicked effort troubled O’Donnell at the near post, but it was Camp who was the hero for Rotherham with another low save to deny Jonathan Kodjia.
