Burnley increase lead at top of Championship

Burnley took pole position in the race to win automatic promotion from the Sky Bet Championship.

The Clarets are now four points clear of Middlesbrough in first place after rallying from behind to beat Fulham 3-2 at Craven Cottage.

Sam Vokes’s early opener was cancelled out by Ross McCormack and the Cottagers soon took the lead through Moussa Dembele.

Wales striker Vokes levelled the tie from the penalty spot four minutes after half-time, leaving Andre Gray to snatch all three points with a 61st-minute winner.

Boro were beaten 1-0 by Neil Warnock’s resurgent Rotherham to move within a point of 21st-placed MK Dons and safety. Karl Robinson’s men kept their heads just above water, for the time being, by taking a point from a goalless draw at Charlton.

With Hull facing Arsenal in the FA Cup instead of participating in league action, the opportunity was there for fifth-placed Derby to make up ground on the Tigers.

It was a bad night for the Rams, too. Tjaronn Chery continued his good run of form in front of goal by opening the scoring as QPR downed Derby 2-0 at Loftus Road, with Gabriele Angella rubber-stamping victory for the Londoners at the death.

First-half efforts from Tony Watt and Danny Graham fired Blackburn to a 2-0 home victory over Birmingham while Ipswich were held to a 2-2 draw at Bolton.

Elsewhere, Nottingham Forest and Wolves earned good wins to consolidate their status as mid-table battlers. Nelson Oliveira’s 37th-minute goal was all that separated Forest and Preston in a 1-0 home win at the City Ground and Wolves left it late to edge Bristol City 2-1 in the West Midlands.
