Burton v Sheff Utd: Sammon and Sharp hoping to reprise success of Blades duo Deane and Agana

WHEN it comes to striking partnerships, Conor Sammon and Billy Sharp have many miles to go before they emulate the feats of revered Sheffield United duo Brian Deane and Tony Agana.

But you have to start somewhere, with the feted Blades stars of yesteryear – who will attend a reunion dinner next month – in attendance to watch the 3-1 weekend derby win over Doncaster, when both Sammon and Sharp scored.

Deane and Agana helped carve open third-tier defences in 1988-89 en route to promotion and if Sammon and Sharp can do half as good a job, the Blades will be set fair.

The latter in particular is running hot, having netted six times in his last six league starts.

Sammon said: “Billy is a real natural goalscorer and he has shown that throughout his career. He’s scored in six consecutive games, which is a really impressive statistic. He is always looking to play on the shoulder and get shots off and get on the end of crosses and it’s very enjoyable playing up front with him.

“I think the two of us can really benefit from playing alongside each other and our games can help each other out in different ways.”
