Carling Cup results: Wins for Leeds United, Bradford City, Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town, but defeats for Barnsley, Doncaster and Rotherham

Leeds United, Sheffield Wednesday, Huddersfield Town and Bradford City were all first-round winners in the Carling Cup on Tuesday evening.

A flurry of early goals propelled Leeds to an impressive 4-0 victory against lacklustre Lincoln at Elland Road.

The npower Championship side recovered from an opening day defeat to Derby in emphatic fashion and were set on the way by first-half goals from Jonathan Howson, Luciano Becchio and Lloyd Sam.

Neil Kilkenny's penalty added to the tally after the break as the Red Imps were condemned to an opening round exit for the fifth successive season.

At Hillsborough, Sheffield Wednesday's Giles Coke knocked in the only goal of the tie to see off Bury.

Former Leeds striker Anthony Elding dumped new-look Barnsley out of the Carling Cup with his first goal for Rochdale in a 1-0 win.

Former Liverpool trainee Craig Lindfield struck an extra-time winner to steer Accrington to a shock victory at Doncaster.

Josh Payne's 47th-minute strike put the hosts on course for victory but npower League Two outfit Stanley drew level in the 83rd minute when substitute Chris Turner fired home.

Lindfield struck in the 93rd minute to put the visitors ahead and a brave defensive effort ensured they emerged victorious.

Substitute James Hanson scored an extra-time winner as Bradford City caused a Cup upset by beating Championship side Nottingham Forest 2-1.

League Two Bradford had already come back from 1-0 down to force the tie into extra-time when they were awarded a free-kick on the edge of the penalty area in the 100th minute.

Simon Ramsden's low right-foot shot was blocked by keeper Lee Camp and, in the ensuing scramble, Hanson - last season's leading scorer - forced the ball over the line.

Jordan Rhodes grabbed his second goal of the season in the 89th minute as Huddersfield secured a 1-0 win at Carlisle.

Peterborough cruised to a 4-1 win over Rotherham at London Road. Marcus Marshall had given the Millers an early lead but Ryan Bennett, George Boyd, Aaron McLean and Craig Mackail-Smith all got on the scoresheet for their League One hosts.
