Carlos Corberan has no excuses after Huddersfield Town loss

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN head coach Carlos Corberan offered no excuses after his side's meek 3-0 Championship defeat at Cardiff City - as the Terriers were handed a sobering reality check following their eye-catching come-from-behind success over Middlesbrough.

Town were architects of their own downfall in South Wales with some lamentable defending gift-wrapping goals to the hosts, more especially with the hosts' second which arrived after some calamitous defending from Naby Sarr.

Former Barnsley and Rotherham United forward Kieffer Moore scored a brace with substitute Robert Glatzel also netting on an occasion when Town's backline did not cover themselves in glory.

The defeat stretched their winless record against the Bluebirds to 14 matches in all competitions.

Heading into Wednesday's action, only Preston and Coventry have leaked more Championship goals than Huddersfield, who have joint third-worst defensive record.

Further forward, the Terriers - who return to action at home to QPR on Saturday - lacked a discernible threat.

Corberan, whose side have won just once in their past six games and two times in their last nine outings, said: "We started the second half better and played in their half but then we conceded a key second goal in a situation we can avoid.

"We have to accept the result as they were better than us in both boxes. We had a lot of the ball, but we didn't create enough chances - especially in the first half.

"After the second goal, they protected their goal and the game became difficult for us. That is no excuse; this is one situation that we have to be prepared for.

"Our idea was to control the ball and to keep Carel Eiting closer to (Jonathan) Hogg. However, they were forced to play more on the side and we didn't find our advantage higher up the pitch.

"We needed to offer options to the player on the ball."
