Chesterfield 0 Rotherham United 1: Pope answers Millers' prayers to hit top three

TOM POPE picked a timely moment to score his first goal since August to win a dour local derby.

The game had just entered its 90th minute when Pope received a pass from Pablo Mills on the edge of the area and he turned and fired a shot low past goalkeeper Tommy Lee.

Chesterfield had no time to respond and the three points took Rotherham back into the top three in League Two.

It was a tight affair but Rotherham edged it on chances and had the two clearest ones in the first half.

Nicky Law was set up by Pope but he saw Lee block his fierce shot.

Then Kevin Ellison was sent clear by Nicky Cummins but he blazed over the bar as Lee came out.

Jack Lester, returning to the Chesterfield line-up, fired his side's best chance over the crossbar in the first half.

It remained tight in the second half and the clearest chance of the night fell to Rotherham's prolific top scorer Adam Le Fondre.

A miscued header by Aaron Downs dropped into his path but he could only strike his effort against the legs of goalkeeper Lee.

The home side were kept at arms length and their only dangerous effort was a 20-yarder from Downs which brought a superb save from Andy Warrington.
