The League One leaders let slip a two-goal lead to be pegged back to 2-2 at the County Ground, before Jay O’Shea and a Paul Coutts penalty secured all three points.

United - nine points clear of third-placed Bolton Wanderers - stretched their unbeaten run to eight games and looked to be cruising at Swindon when Caolan Lavery and Kieron Freeman netted before half-time.

“We are made up with the result,” said Wilder.

“We made it difficult for ourselves but we had two wonder strikes just after half-time but we should have put the game to bed in the first half.

“We pressed and got after Swindon and created some good opportunities.

“But they got a goal out of nothing and that gives them something to play for as they had nothing to lose against the league leaders and then they got themselves back on level terms after a wonderful goal.

“The game could go either way but we dug in and got the result.”

The Blades have not lost since a 2-0 home defeat to second-placed Fleetwood Town on January 24.

On Saturday they welcome Charlton Athletic to Bramall Lane - the first of three home games out of their next four fixtures.

Lavery was substituted after 57 minutes against Swindon, but is expected to be fit for the weekend.
