Dag & Red 1 Huddersfield 1: Terriers pay penalty for spurned chances

A second-half penalty from Danny Green denied Huddersfield Town all three points at Dagenham & Redbridge last night.

The game began on a controversial note in just the second minute of the game. Romain Vincelot’s header appeared to be clearly blocked by Joey Gudjonsson’s hand, but amazingly referee Graham Scott gave a corner.

Spared a penalty and with their full complement of 11, Huddersfield controlled large portions of the first half and were twice denied at point-blank range by Daggers keeper Tony Roberts.

The breakthrough finally came on 28 minutes when Gudjonsson’s drilled shot was turned in by Tom Clarke, which was just reward for their efforts, especially that of wing pairing Gary Roberts and Anthony Pilkington.

The second half was a different affair though as Dagenham attacked. The visitors would have been out of sight had Roberts turned in Jack Hunt’s cross rather than hit the post and they paid the price soon after. Peltier was deemed to have handled Jon Nurse’s shot and Green blasted the penalty past Ian Bennett.

Huddersfield sent on Arsenal loanee Benik Afobe to help find a late winner and his 82nd-minute header was goalbound, only for Roberts to turn it over the bar.

Roberts hit the post again in the final moments, while Jordan Rhodes also went close, but Huddersfield had to settle for a point.
