Doncaster boss points at improvements despite win

James Coppinger grabbed a superb hat-trick to help Rovers record their first win over the Canaries since way back in 1935 and climb up to fourth place in the npower Championship in the process.

The midfielder had already bagged a brace either side of the break - the first a stunning strike - when Norwich found the net through Russell Martin just after the hour mark and briefly threatened.

But Doncaster made sure of victory, their third of the season, when Coppinger claimed the matchball courtesy of a deflected 86th-minute free-kick.

Coppinger's third made sure of the points late on but the game should have been closed out before that and the majority of the 9,314 at the Keepmoat Stadium were left on tenterhooks.

O'Driscoll said: "It was enjoyable for us apart from a spell of about 20 minutes in the second half when we made bad decision after bad decision.

"When you are 2-0 up in this league, Championship sides kill you off but we don't seem to be able to do that.

"We let them back into the game but, having said that, I think they are a good team and they'll be there or thereabouts at the end of the season.

"Tactically we got it right and made one or two changes to combat the way they play.

"But people don't give anything away in this division and we still need to improve."

Commenting on Coppinger's hat-trick, he added: "He's been terrific and he deserved that.

"When he first came he wanted to walk the ball into the net but the first goal was a super strike from way outside the area."
