Doncaster Rovers beat off 'fierce competition' to sign Tyreece John-Jules

DONCASTER ROVERS manager Darren Moore has revealed that the club beat off 'fierce competition' to sign Arsenal forward Tyreece John-Jules on a season-long loan from Premier League club Arsenal.

Moore utilised his extensive links in the top-flight to bring in John-Jules, 19, who a seven-game loan stint with Lincoln City last term.

Rovers are also being strongly tipped to follow up with another loan move for highly-rated West Brom forward Rayhaan Tulloch - also on the wanted list of Fleetwood and Swindon.

n the signing of John-Jules, who was not involved in Tuesday night''s EFL Cup game with Bradford City, Moore said: "I am really pleased to get him over the line. There was some real fierce competition for him.

"Something I spoke about the other week was working with these clubs and being persistent on it and a lot of hard work has gone in.

"He will be a wonderful acquisition to the squad in terms of the player he is and the squad that we are and type of attacking player he is and our team dynamics.

"I am really looking forward to working with him and he is someone I kept my eye on last season.

"He is a good finisher with an eye for goal. He is a good young player with a bright future ahead of him."

On links with Tulloch, he added: "Rayhaan is among those we have looked at this season and has potential. But again, we keep working and he has been one of many we have looked at. Hopefully, we will see how that goes."

Rovers claimed a bonus point after winning a penalty shoot-out 4-1 against Bradford, whose spirited young line-up pegged back the hosts in a 0-0 draw.

On a mixed evening for Doncaster, who fielded a strong side - with keeper Louis Jones making his debut, Moore - whose squad got some valuable match fitness ahead of Saturday's League One opener with MK Dons, observed: "Credit to Bradford. I thought they worked really hard and made it a really difficult game for us.

"But I thought our penalties were really good and Louis Jones did really well and it was a solid performance from him.

"But there were things in possession of the ball we could have done better. We could have enjoyed the ball a bit more and moved it a bit more.

"It was an okay game, in terms of us going through the game with no injuries and a clean sheet.

"As the game went on, I thought we grew into it and with the pace of the game, took a little bit more control."
