Doncaster Rovers v Salford City: Grant McCann on being in a 'rush' for injured players to return - despite results upturn

RECENT SIGNS have emphatically suggested that Doncaster Rovers are making light of their long injury count by way of some improved results.

That hasn't stopped Grant McCann from being anxious to see his treatment room clear in double-quick time - and with good reason.

Heading into tonight's home game, McCann's side have won five of their last seven league matches - despite being without a host of players.

Slowly but surely, they are starting to return to the fray. It will hand McCann some selection dilemmas down the line, but he cannot wait for that.

The Rovers chief also wants them back quickly for another entirely justifiable reason.

McCann, whose side now have four matches on the spin at the Eco-Power Stadium in three different competitions, said: "There is a rush.

"There is not a rush in terms of getting them back and losing them again. But we want them back as soon as possible as not only do they give you that strength in depth from the bench and to change games, it also keeps the people in the team really on their toes.

"I am not saying that the boys have dropped off it, but in football, it can happen.

"We want people to know that they are earning that shirt and it's theirs to lose, really.

"Having a lot of those players back will get that togetherness and fighting spirit even more. I am looking forward to them coming back."

Joseph Olowu is available for tonight's game, while former Halifax Town captain Jack Senior could also be involved.

Kyle Hurst and James Maxwell have also returned to the club's training group, although tonight's Roses encounter with the Ammers is likely to come too soon.

McCann said: "We've had a positive few days. Jack has a chance (for Salford), Hursty and James are probably a little bit away."

Richard Wood and George Miller are also back working on their fitness with the club's conditioning coaches and are ‘edging closer to a return' according to McCann.

"We are starting to get there in terms of the bodies coming back', the Rovers manager continued.
