Blackpool v Doncaster Rovers: Forrester forced to be patient in new system

The former Brentford man, perceived by many Rovers fans as an off-the-cuff talent capable of winning matches on his own, has featured just twice under Ferguson, both appearances coming from the bench in losing causes.

With Ferguson’s work on the training ground starting to bear fruit, with Rovers, operating in a 3-5-2 system, having won back-to-back matches ahead of today’s trip to the coast, Forrester is forced to play a game of patience to wait for his chance.

Ferguson has spoken with the 24-year-old and while he says he cannot promise him an instant pathway back to the first team, he is cajoling him to continue putting in the hard yards in training.

Ferguson said: “We have had a good chat. Harry’s got some ability and every manager and person who has watched him would say the same thing.

“In this system we are playing, it probably isn’t an ideal one because he is predominantly a wide player who can play as a ‘10’.

“But he has to understand we are doing it for the right reasons and he has to grasp where we are at with it.

“But a lot of what he does, I really like. One thing he should be thinking is that he’s out of contract in the summer and isn’t playing enough football.

“That is something I have to look at as well.

“I understand his situation and I have simply told him to get his head down and try and do his best to fit into this system.”
