Doncaster Rovers 0 Peterborough 2: Better team won, says Dickov as Rovers slip

Peterborough United made it four consecutive wins under Academy manager Dave Robertson to move up to seventh after a dominant performance.

Posh broke the deadlock in the 16th minute when Luke James latched onto Jon Taylor’s cross with a super diving header.

Joe Newell could have put them two up but his long-range strike was tipped over by Stephen Bywater.

Peterborough doubled their lead two minutes from time when they broke from a Doncaster corner and Conor Washington fired home.

Nathan Tyson, Harry Forrester and Curtis Main were all denied by Ben Alnwick in the first half but Dickov admitted: “We didn’t deserve anything out of the game. The better team won and sometimes you have to hold your hands up. We knew it was going to be tough and it was.

“Both their goals have come from mistakes, which isn’t on. We shouldn’t have let them break from a corner. We were still in with a chance but letting them break and get the second killed the game.”

Dickov, whose side are just three points adrift of the play-off places, brought new loan signing from Rotherham Jonson Clarke-Harris straight into the starting line-up to make his debut for the club.
