Doncaster Rovers 2 Fleetwood 0: Dickov ready to act as Wellens heads for exit

Midfield man Wellens was left out of Saturday’s win over Fleetwood and appears to have made the last of his 98 appearances for Rovers since returning to the club two years ago.

Dickov said: “If he goes, he goes on my terms and I’d like it to be all wrapped up one way or another by Monday.

“I didn’t think it was right for him to play under the circumstances but I can’t say strongly enough there is no problem between me and Richie and Richie and the club.”

Doncaster produced an encouraging performance to defeat Fleetwood and chalk up their first league victory of the season.

Rovers had gone into the game without scoring in their last three league matches but the hosts struck twice in a 10-minute first-half spell. James Coppinger provided the first with a thunderbolt of a free-kick from 30 yards on 17 minutes and then Curtis Main slotted his first of the season.

Fleetwood almost equalised when Thorsten Stuckmann fumbled the ball on the edge of the area but Aaron Taylor-Sinclair was on hand to scramble it away.

Another sweeping attack from the hosts brought about the second goal on 24 minutes as Coppinger fed the ball in to Andy Williams, who sought strike partner Curtis Main rather than going on his own, and the former Middlesbrough man slotted home.
