Ferguson, whose side face a tough trip to League One leaders Coventry at the weekend, said: “It was a great way to bounce back. Saturday was a disappointing result.

“We wanted six points from these two home games so if you lose the first, you’ve got to make sure you win the second.

“I thought they (Chesterfield) started well but after that I thought we were dominant and played really well. I thought we could have had more than three.

“I just said to them at half time we needed a bit more quality in the last third. We were slowing it down for some reason.

“But our pressing was what we worked on and we wanted our wing backs up against their full backs.

“So I felt tactically the players were good I thought we had a performance of real energy.”
