Former England goalkeeper Kirkland is Doncaster Rovers bound

Doncaster Rovers are closing in on the signing of former England goalkeeper Chris Kirkland on a deal until January.

The 30-year-old, who was capped by England in 2006, is to be brought in on an emergency loan by new manager Dean Saunders.

Rovers host Yorkshire rivals Leeds United on Friday and the deal to bring in the ex-Liverpool and West Brom goalkeeper from current Premier League employers Wigan Athletic is expected to be done shortly, to allow him to feature in that game.
