Frustrating wait for Doncaster Rovers in transfer bid

DONCASTER ROVERS fans face a frustrating wait until the middle of this month before the club kick-starts some significant transfer activity, with no incoming arrivals likely until July 18.

An interregnum period ahead of the shares of major shareholders Terry Bramall and Dick Watson being passed onto John Ryan and Louis Tomlinson in ten days time means that Rovers manager Paul Dickov is effectively in limbo before being able to get a number of deals over the line - for the second summer running.

Dickov has spoken to several out-of-contract players who he is keen to keep, including stalwart James Coppinger, with the Rovers chief also in the market for a number of new signings, with former Derby midfielder James Bailey training with the club and former Huddersfield Town captain Peter Clarke high on Dickov’s wanted list.

Rovers have already seen a number of targets head elsewhere with former crowd favourite Paul Green on the club’s wish-list, only for the midfielder to sign for near-neighbours Rotherham United recently.

Rovers were also keen on former Blackpool goalkeeper Matt Gilks, but he has since linked up with Burnley.

Another player the club must do without in the forthcoming season is defender Paul Quinn, who announced his departure from the club on Twitter.
