FT Doncaster Rovers 1 Shrewsbury Town 0: Paynter nets winner for Rovers

Dean Saunders saw his Doncaster Rovers side beat Shrewsbury Town at the Keepmoat Stadium in League One.

James Harper was back in the side following injury, while Ian Hume also returned after being forced to sit out the midweek defeat to parent club Preston under the terms of his loan deal. Jamie McCombe (hip) missed out, while Rob Jones was out suspended.

Rovers’ winner came in the fourth-minute, Billy Paynter’s penalty was enough for Rovers to secure victory.

Paynter smashed home his spot-kick after Town captain Matt Richards felled David Cotterill in the box.

Doncaster thought they had gone further ahead when David Syers struck home spectacularly, only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

Marvin Morgan came closest to equalising for Shrewsbury, but he headed wide with the goal at his mercy.
