Jones applies for Rovers job

The 35-year-old caretaker-manager confirmed at Thursday’s pre-match press conference, ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sheffield United, that he has applied for the vacant position.

“I’ve applied,” said former Sheffield Wednesday defender Jones. “I want this job. It’s as simple as that.

“I know we’ve had two weeks of ‘is he, is he not?’ but I have applied for the job.

“I’m loving what I’m doing and I want to continue in that vein.

“You don’t work for seven years and then get an opportunity to manage a club like this and then not grab with it both hands. That’s what I’m trying to do.

“I’ve been in the job two weeks now and I’m thoroughly enjoying it.

“I love the fact that I’m in charge and I’m the one who has to move us forward and I’m the one who has to make decisions.

“This is what I want to do.

“I’ve been given an opportunity and I’m in a very privileged position.

“I’ll never forget that and it’s up to me now to move it forward.”

Rovers have signed Crystal Palace striker Keshi Anderson on a 28-day loan.

The 20-year-old arrived at Selhurst Park in February from non league Barton Rovers – having scored a hat-trick against Alan Pardew’s side in a trial game.

He could make his Football League debut on Saturday against the Blades.
