The 24-year-old has scored three goals in the last two games to take his tally for the season to eight.

Bennett, who will be out of contract in the summer, has not always delivered so prolifically for Rovers, but Dickov has been impressed with the player’s application. “Kyle’s been great this year,” said Dickov. “They say about typical wingers that they can be inconsistent, but whenever we’ve needed him he’s played.

“He’s got a completely different outlook to his football now; he’s working his socks off in training and he’s getting his rewards.

“I’ve not had one moment of problem with Kyle Bennett. He’s a really good kid who wants to do well.

“He’s been very professional about his development.”

On his recruitment plans for next summer, which have begun early with Rovers effectively out of the play-off picture, Dickov added: “We want to keep our better players and Kyle is one of them.

“I know who I want to keep and where we want to strengthen. I know in my own mind what we need to do. We’ve got players playing for their future these last five games, here or elsewhere.”
