No hard feelings as Butler heads for Rovers

Butler has completed a move to hometown side Doncaster and the experienced centre-half is set to make his debut in Saturday’s League One home clash with MK Dons.

Butler, 30, who hails from Balby, has signed on until January 3.

Butler, who recently spelt a loan stint at old club Walsall, has found himself out of favour at Bramall Lane, despite only joined the Blades in the summer.

But he is firmly focusing on the future and is philosophical of what has happened at the Blades.

Butler, who returned to United after Walsall elected not to re-sign him on loan, said: “My loan ran out with Walsall and I spoke to the manager there and he wanted to use the loan funds for midfielders and strikers, so that ended that move.

“I went back to Sheffield United for two days and got a phone call off the gaffer asking if I would like to try it at Doncaster.

“All I want to do is play football games and I jumped at the chance.

“The situation (at Sheffield United) is not really one I have been in before as in the last few years I have played most games.

“The move has not worked out, but that is football and sometimes football does not work out like that and you have to go elsewhere to play football.

“Such a thing has happened at Sheffield United. People will say I have had arguments with the gaffer. But I haven’t. It is purely his opinion that the players who are in front of me are playing better than I am.

“It is his opinion. That is what football is all about.”
