Doncaster v Millwall: Nathan Tyson feeling positive after Rovers' '˜good week in training'

Nathan Tyson hopes his return to fitness can help Doncaster Rovers escape the rut which is threatening to derail their season.

The experienced striker was in top form, scoring against Premier League opposition Stoke City in Rovers’ narrow FA Cup loss on January 9.

Tyson was then sidelined for a month, which coincided with an alarming run of results which saw Rovers fail to win in six.

He was thrown in at the deep end against Sheffield United and Barnsley and could not prevent 1-0 defeats to their South Yorkshire neighbours.

It means Doncaster are just three points off the bottom four in League One ahead of today’s visit from play-off hopefuls Millwall to the Keepmoat Stadium.

“It was kind of being thrown in there, but it’s good to be out there playing,” said Tyson. “It’s going to take me one or two games to get back in the swing of things. Saturday I was getting back to my momentum. We’ve been in every day training this week and this Saturday hopefully I will show my best.

“I just started to find my feet and suddenly – bang I was injured. These things happen; you just have to make sure you’re strong to go and make sure your fitness levels are as good as they can be. I think I’ve done that.

“In the last two games it wasn’t exactly great, but I like to think my desire and passion to perform can clearly be shown.”

If Rovers do survive this season, they need to start scoring goals. They have only scored twice in their last five outings.

An improvement in their home form would also be welcome, with just five league wins in 16 outings a poor return at the Keepmoat this season.

“Probably there was not enough clear cut chances,” said Tyson, on their recent lack of goals.

“Probably the service to the strikers has not been as good as what it has been.

“We’ve done plenty of work on that to move ourselves to where we want to be.

“It’s back to basics and it’s been a good week in training.

“We’ve got a lot of games left and the most important thing we should do is get enough wins to stay in this league,” added the former Nottingham Forest striker. “I’m pretty sure the lads are feeling very confident, believing in ourselves and we know the job in hand that we’ve got to do.”
