Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 6 Preview – Captain pick, “Who’s hot, Who’s not?” and Ones To Watch

While Liverpool’s defence suffers Virgil Van Dijk’s loss, Harry Kane and Son’s strong attacking form continues as they both on the scored to fantasy football managers’ delight in a topsy-turvy West Ham draw in a game where Gareth Bale made his Premier League return.

This week, high-flyers Villa take on Leeds in the season’s first Friday night fixture which brings this week’s transfer deadline forward to Friday 23rd October at 6.30pm.

Sergio Aguero (£10.4m) vs West Ham (A)

Aguero’s penalty against Porto on Wednesday ended the Argentine’s longest goal drought of his career.

Seven and a half months passed since his FA Cup strike against Sheffield Wednesday but if you can forgive him for not scoring whilst injured or during a global pandemic, on the pitch he only went the equivalent of three games goalless.

With penalty duty and a favourable fixture in his arsenal, Aguero should be a popular captain pick this week as over the fourteen times he’s played against West Ham, he’s scored ten goals and provided four assists.

Mo Salah (£12.3m) vs Sheffield United (H)

Mo Salah at home against joint bottom of the league – What more do you want? He’s racked up six goals and one assist across his first five games and coupled with having the most shots and chances in the league, he scored in this exact fixture last season.

Sheffield United will play without Jack O’Connell due to a knee injury which will further weaken the Blades’ defence.

Harry Kane (£10.8m) vs Burnley (A)

Although Tottenham’s last win at Burnley came in 2017, form dictates that Spurs should comfortably win this game. Along with Sheffield United and Fulham, Burnley sit joint bottom of the league and concede an average of two goals per game. Spurs on the other hand are the league’s top goal scorers and in Harry Kane have the league’s most in-form player. The England captain has been involved in twelve league goals across his first five league games and joins Salah at the top of the charts for shots and chances from open play. After being rested for Spurs’ Europa League game on Thursday, Kane should be fit and raring to go on Monday.

The Form Guide - Who’s Hot?

Ross Barkley (Aston Villa, £6.0m)

After a last-minute winner away to Leicester on Sunday, Barkley’s strike made Villa the only team in Europe’s top five leagues to maintain a winning start to the season.

Since his arrival to the Midlands, no Aston Villa player has taken more shots or had more chances than Barkley and with rumours that he might be on penalty duty, for £6.0m and with games against Leeds, Southampton, Brighton and West Ham across his next five games, he could be a bargain.

Max Kilman (Wolves, £4.1m)

Having started Wolves’ last two games, Kilman picked up two clean sheets and a man of the match award in the process. There are currently no cheaper starting defender in the game and with Newcastle and Crystal Palace at home next, now could be a great time to bring the youngster in.

The Form Guide - Who’s Not?

Although Virgil Van Dijk and James Rodriguez have been ruled out this week due to injury, fantasy managers should also consider transferring out these players:

Matt Doherty (Tottenham, £5.8m)

With three Premier League starts in a row, Serge Aurier looks to be Jose’s favoured right back as Doherty’s game time has been limited to the Europa League.

With no goals, assists or clean sheets this season, it’s time to cash in on Doherty if you haven’t already.

Willian (Arsenal, £7.9m)

Fourteen of Willian’s 22 points this season came in gameweek one when he provided a hat-trick of assists in a game that was expected to set the tone for the Brazilian’s season. Since then however, Willian has not contributed to a goal, despite starting every game. With games against Leicester, Man United and Aston Villa on the horizon, his poor form may continue for a while longer.

Ones to Watch (Less than 5% ownership)

Ollie Watkins (Aston Villa, £6.0m, 4.9%)

Another player with favourable form and fixtures is Ollie Watkins.

Since the start of the season, no Villa player has had more shots on target or big chances than him and with Grealish, Barkley and McGinn behind him, you can expect his supply of chances to continue.

Nelson Semedo (Wolves, £5.5m, 2.1%)

For £1.4m more than Max Kilman, you can buy the Wolves’ right wing-back who has the licence to get forward in an attacking system.

Since joining the club, no Wolves defender has taken more shots or had as many touches in the opposition’s penalty area.
