Fantasy Premier League: Gameweek 7 Preview – Captain picks, Who’s hot, Who’s not? and Ones To Watch

Last weekend was a tediously low-scoring gameweek as only Liverpool scored more than one goal out of the traditional ‘top six’ teams and six teams managed clean sheets.

After gaining a point against Man City, West Ham travel to Liverpool this weekend hoping for a similar outcome, Man United host Arsenal and Leeds host Leicester as fourth play sixth. Wolves vs Crystal Palace is the Friday fixture so make sure you set your team before today’s transfer deadline at 6.30pm.

Heung-Min Son (£9.5m) vs Brighton (H)

With no win in their last five games, this week Son faces an out of form Brighton team side who only picked up two points in October. Although the South Korean is the league’s top goalscorer and has scored in his last three games, it will not be a straight forward game for Tottenham as Brighton have conceded the least shots in the league over the last four gameweeks.

Danny Ings (£8.5m) vs Aston Villa (A)

In a contrast to Brighton’s mean defensive, Aston Villa’s humble stats show that they have conceded the most shots in the box over the last four gameweeks which will be music to Danny Ings’ ears as he scored twice in this fixture last season and has two goals and two assists across his last four league games. On penalty duties too, he as the form and the fixture of a fantastic captain pick.

Sadio Mane (£12.0m) vs West Ham (H)

With less than 10% ownership throughout the game, Mane is going under the radar for his consistent performances this season. Having coronavirus in gameweek four didn’t help, but over the five gameweeks he’s played, he’s only blanked once – vs Leeds in gameweek one. Mane has had more big chances than any Liverpool player over the last four gameweeks and with Van Dijk and Fabinho out with injury, Klopp may rely on his attack rather than his defence to secure the win.

The Form Guide - Who’s Hot?

Patrick Bamford (Leeds, £5.9m)

It’s easy to recommend Bamford after bagging a hat-trick but his stats exceed what you’d hope for from a low-priced forward. No player has taken more shots inside the box than Bamford over the last four gameweeks and only Kane has had more chances from open play in the same timeframe. With Leicester and Arsenal at home sandwiched around Crystal Palace away, Leeds have decent fixtures ahead and are one of the only teams to show consistency this season.

Ben Chilwell (Chelsea, £5.8m)

With four clean sheets over Chelsea’s last five games including trips to Old Trafford and Krasnodar, Frank Lampard has managed to sure up his back-line whilst giving Chilwell the licence to attack. Only one defender (Stuart Dallas) has had more shots on target than Chilwell over the last four gameweeks and only one defender (Aaron Cresswell) has created more chances. In Burnley, Sheffield United and Newcastle, Chelsea face three out of form teams next.

Adama Traore (Wolves, £6.3m)

Without a Premier League start since gameweek three, Traore’s search for a goal or an assist goes on as Nuno Espirito Santo’s trust in Daniel Podence and Pedro Neto continues. Traore sometimes played right wing-back last season but with the signing of Nelson Semedo from Barcelona, he now can’t get a game in defence either!

Timothy Castagne (Leicester, £5.8m)

On Thursday, Brendan Rodgers confirmed that Castagne has picked up a hamstring injury that will keep him out until at least gameweek nine. The Belgian had had a good season up until now, shown by being the fourth highest scoring defender in the game.

Priced at £5.8m, owners should be keen to cash out on him before he drops in price.

Ones to Watch (Less than 5% ownership)

Diogo Jota (Liverpool, £6.3m, 2.1%)

Having scored two goals in a week and with Klopp altering Liverpool’s formation to cope with the loss of Van Dijk and Fabinho, Jota has the chance to force his way into Liverpool’s first choice eleven.

Switching from a 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1 creates a slot for an extra attacking midfielder and with goals against Sheffield United and Midtjylland in the last week, the chances are that Klopp will choose Jota to fill in.

Joao Cancelo (Man City, £5.4m, 0.9%)

With consecutive league starts and thirteen points across them, Cancelo is making his case to be City’s first choice left back. His main rival for the spot (Benjamin Mendy) is side-lined through injury and with a clean sheet against Arsenal and an assist for the leveller against West Ham,

I see no reason why Pep won’t pick him again this week.
