Flynn is focused purely on outcome in Basle

Wales caretaker manager Brian Flynn has deflected all personal attention ahead of tonight's crucial Euro 2012 qualifier in Switzerland.

Flynn is anxious to make an impression in the second and final match of his spell in temporary charge but insists competition points are all that matter.

Welsh hopes of progressing to the finals from Group G are already slender after defeat in Montenegro was followed by another loss in Flynn's first match against Bulgaria last Friday.

Yet Flynn remains optimistic as he prepares to face a Swiss side who have endured a similarly disappointing start.

The former Wrexham and Swansea boss, who hopes to celebrate his 55th birthday in style with a win in Basle today, said: "The team is the most important. What happens next I have no idea, I haven't spoken to anyone. Switzerland in Basle is the key to this situation."

Scotland manager Craig Levein will assess the fitness of Lee McCulloch and Alan Hutton this morning before finalising his team to face Spain in Group I.

Hutton is almost certain to miss the Euro 2012 qualifier with a groin injury, with Sunderland right-back Phil Bardsley set to take his place at right-back.

McCulloch served a one-match ban which meant he missed the 1-0 defeat by the Czech Republic on Friday night but a hip problem would have forced him out anyway and the Rangers midfielder remains a doubt.

Northern Ireland manager Nigel Worthington is anxious his side improve on their tally of four Group C points following a victory against Slovenia and a goalless draw with Italy when they take on the Faroe Islands in Toftir. But he will not let them take anything for granted.

Worthington, who played at left-back when the Faroe Islands held Northern Ireland to a draw at Windsor Park in a European Championship qualifier in 1991, said: "I was part of a team that thought maybe it was going to be easy. You cannot afford to do that."

Slovakia and Republic of Ireland will start their encounter in Zilina level on six points alongside Russia at the top of Group B, but with both looking to bounce back from disappointing performances on Friday.

The Republic were beaten 3-2 by Russia in Dublin while Slovakia surprisingly lost 3-1 to Armenia in Yerevan.

Both teams will be shorn of key players, with Kevin Doyle sidelined by a knee injury for the visitors while Slovakia are without striker Robert Vittek and suspended Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel.
