Forget Marcelo Bielsa comparisons with Carlos Corberan, says Rotherham United boss Paul Warne

PAUL WARNE feels that comparing Huddersfield Town head coach Carlos Corberan to Marcelo Bielsa is unfair, believing the Spaniard has already stamped his own way of playing on the Terriers.

The Millers and Town shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw on Saturday after an own goal in stoppage-time from Angus MacDonald cancelled out a first-half strike from Ben Wiles.

Huddersfield dominated the ball, enjoying just under 75 per cent of possession and pressed hard when Rotherham had control.

Corberan joined Huddersfield from Leeds United, where he was manager of the Whites’ Under-23s side and assistant coach to Bielsa.

Warne believes that every manager can learn from Bielsa and apply aspects of his management on their own teams.

“I don’t like to talk about Bielsa because it is disrespectful to him (Corberan),” said Warne.

“He has got his own way of playing, it might be similar to Bielsa but what they did do is when we had the ball, they didn’t let us have it for very long. That is a Bielsa thing, they press all over the pitch.

“They trust their defenders, so there are definitely elements of Bielsa but because Bielsa is like the super coach, everyone nicks ideas off Bielsa.

“They are definitely a fit group, we can see that.

“I think it is his own style that he is trying to imprint on the team.”

On the difference between being an assistant coach and head coach, Corberan said: “When you are the assistant you are the one trying to help the one who is trying to command the situation.

“But when you are the coach you need to make more decisions and command the situation.

“Of course it is different but what you can do is use your previous experience to command the task in the best way.”
