Garry Monk and David Wagner set to be hit both in the pocket and on the touchline after FA charges

The Terriers triumphed 2-1 thanks to an 89th-minute strike by Michael Hefele that was followed by Wagner racing on to the pitch to celebrate with his players.

Monk then stepped in front of Wagner as he jogged back along the touchline to spark a clash that soon descended into a melee involving both clubs’ staff and players.

Once calm had been restored, three yellow cards were shown, to Pontus Jansson, Liam Bridcutt and Elias Kachunga.

Town and Leeds have both been charged with failing to control their own players/officials, while Wagner is facing two charges of improper conduct over, first, invading the pitch and then clashing with Monk.

United head coach Monk, meanwhile, is facing one charge over the touchline bust-up. All parties have until 6pm on Friday to respond.

The standard FA penalty for clubs admitting the charge of failing to control their players/officials is £5,000, which rises by 50 per cent if later found guilty after initially denying the charge.

Managers admitting improper conduct face the standard punishment of a one-game ban and £2,000 fine per charge, but the charges facing Wagner and Monk are more serious. They will, instead, be heard by a disciplinary commission and there are no set penalties.

The duo’s previous disciplinary record will form part of those deliberations.

Monk has already served a one-game ban this season following his dismissal from the touchline towards the end of September’s 1-0 defeat at Bristol City.

A month or so later, Wagner was also dismissed after celebrating Kachunga’s late winner against Derby County in a similar vein to Hefele’s goal, but avoided further punishment.

An FA statement read: “Huddersfield’s David Wagner is subject to two alleged breaches of FA Rule E3 in that in or around the 89th minute, his behaviour in entering the field of play amounted to improper conduct.

“It is further alleged his behaviour upon his return to the vicinity of the technical area amounted to improper conduct. It is alleged that Leeds’s Garry Monk breached FA Rule E3 in that in or around the 89th minute, his behaviour amounted to improper conduct.”
