Guiseley made the perfect start when centre-back Rob Atkinson tapped in after Grimsby goalkeeper James McKeown blocked the initial effort.

The away side, who brought a large and loud following, had their first chance when Nathan Arnold struck a powerful effort which required Guiseley goalkeeper Dan Atkinson to make a smart save.

Grimsby, though, were soon level when Craig Disley was on hand to turn in an Arnold corner. The visitors started to push forward after gaining the leveller with Connor Jennings hitting an effort from outside the area which just went wide.

Just before half-time Grimsby should have taken the lead when Patrick Hoban, who recently joined the side from Oxford United, headed an effort against the underside of the crossbar.

Guiseley started the second half with a goal when Nicky Boshell reacted the quickest after a Will Hatfield shot had been saved, but moments later Grimsby were back level when Evan Horwood crossed for Padraig Amond to head home.

Guiseley striker Adam Boyes missed while stretching for the ball, while Grimsby’s Josh Gowling headed over from six yards out.
