Halifax hope Wembley visit is repeated

Chairman David Bosomworth and director Bobby Ham both hope to be going back to the national stadium on May 18, when the non-League season will reach its climax with the game that will decide who joins champions Luton Town in next season’s Football League.

For the reformed Shaymen, the prospect of a first visit to the national stadium is a tantalising one. And especially as it could be just 360 minutes of football away, providing Halifax get the required point from Saturday’s home game against Kidderminster Harriers.

Ham said last night: “All five of the clubs who can still reach the play-offs were invited to Wembley to discuss the final and what will need to be done by the two finalists.

“There is a very small gap between the play-off semi-finals finishing and the final on May 18, something like 10-12 days.

“So, it is important that the clubs who could be involved know what will need to be done.

“Wembley is a fantastic place. We had a little walk around, the dressing rooms and the like, and it would be fantastic if FC Halifax Town could be playing there next month. Not that we are getting carried away. We have a lot of hard work to do before we can think about that.”

A point will be enough to guarantee Town, fourth at the moment, a play-off place. But victory over Kidderminster could also see Halifax finish third – and ensure the second leg is played at The Shay on Sunday, May 4.

Ham added: “We want to win, of course we do. Home advantage in the second leg could be a big thing.”
