Aldershot 3 FC Halifax Town 2: Aspin left furious as defence goes ‘missing’

MANAGER Neil Aspin blasted his FC Halifax Town side’s defensive record after they lost their sixth game of the season.

The result leaves Halifax second-bottom with just one win from eight games, and the Town chief was again left frustrated at his team’s defensive frailties.

Aspin said: “I sound like a broken record now but you just have to look at the goals against column, that speaks for itself and that’s why we’re down at the bottom.

“We’ve had four away games and in three of them we’ve let in three goals. Again today they were early goals and the game is over before it’s started and we’re not giving ourselves any platform to go on and win any games.”

The Shots raced into a two-goal lead thanks to Jim Stevenson and Charlie Walker.

Stevenson’s first long-range effort was saved by Matt Glennon, but Halifax failed to clear, giving the Shots midfielder another chance to take aim and fire home.

Halifax then gave Walker too much space and failed to get a foot in as he dribbled into the area and rolled the ball across Glennon.

Walker appeared to put the result beyond doubt with his second when a slip by Hamza Bencherif allowed the hosts to find their striker unmarked.

Substitute Danny Hattersley got one back when he fired into the top corner on the half-turn.

Sheffield United loanee David Brooks then set-up a grandstand finish when he swept the ball home following an intricate passing move, although an equaliser proved beyond The Shaymen.
