Welling 2 FC Halifax Town 0: Kabba profits at double from Shaymen errors

Caretaker-manager Gareth McClelland admitted individual errors proved costly for FC Halifax Town.

A first-half brace from Sahr Kabba proved decisive after Halifax had enjoyed the better of the opening 45 minutes, and had a ‘goal’ from Hamza Bencherif contentiously ruled out for offside.

Sloppy defending by goalkeeper Matt Glennon and Sheffield United loanee centre-back Julian Banton led to two goals in as many minutes for Kabba.

McClelland said: “I’m very disappointed. To give two goals away just before at half-time in the manner we did is not what we deserved.

“We dominated the first-half, created numerous opportunities but didn’t take them and we got punished just before half-time.

“Matty, who I can’t speak highly enough of, just made a mistake and fumbled it. We need to do better.”

In a competitive start, Sam Walker’s free-kick fell kindly to Matty Brown but he miscued his shot over the bar.

James Bolton then met Walker’s corner with a bullet header which flew off target before Welling captain Ricky Wellard curled a shot just wide.

The Shaymen, like so many times before this season, were their own worst enemy as Glennon spilled a close-range header from Sam Corne into the path of Kabba, who tapped-in.

Kabba then blasted the ball past Glennon from 10 yards two minutes later after his first shot had been blocked.
