The result leaves the Shaymen still searching for their first away win of the season, but it was their first clean sheet on the road this term.

Halifax went into the game on the back of conceding a last-gasp equaliser in a 2-2 draw with Nuneaton, but Aspin admitted the point gained at Woking was much more welcome.

He said: “I’m a lot happier with a point than I was on Tuesday, but any point you get away from home you have to be happy with – especially after the long journey down here, it’s a good point.

“It wasn’t the best of games, very scrappy at times.

“There wasn’t a lot of quality and out of all the games we’ve had it was probably the most uneventful.

“But I’m happier with a 0-0 than if we’d had a high-scoring draw because if we keep on conceding goals then we’re not going to win games.”

Fourth from bottom of the
table Woking enjoyed the better chances throughout the match, and looked a threat early on when John Goddard fired wide after a strong run into the area and Scott Rendell headed off-target from Adam Newton’s cross.

Simon Ainge then wasted a good chance for the visitors when he blazed over from a corner, but Woking were guilty of even greater profligacy when Joe McNerney headed wide and Rendell dragged a shot across goal after a superb run by former Barnsley winger Kevin Betsy.

McNerney was denied by a brilliant save from goalkeeper Matt Glennon in the second half as Woking continued to offer the greater threat.

Both sides then saw free-kicks rebound back off the woodwork late on as Josh Payne’s effort struck the bar for the hosts before late substitute Josh Wilson hit a post for the Shaymen.

The results leaves Halifax placed in mid-table, four points adrift of the play-off spots.
