Town did the double over the East Midlanders for the first time since 1999-2000 last season, including a peerless 3-0 victory last November which many home supporters considered to be Huddersfield’s best home display for several years.

But over the course of history, Town’s record against Forest is mixed and here’s a look at four times when Huddersfield have sampled success.

November 1, 2014: Huddersfield 3 Forest 0.

Former Forest players Joel Lynch and Grant Holt were among the scorers as Huddersfield produced an outstanding display to sink the Midlanders 3-0 at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Lynch set the tone after just 44 seconds against Stuart Pearce’s Reds when he headed home and Nahki Wells doubled the tally for the irresistible Terriers on twenty minutes - taking his seasonal tally to nine goals in the bargain.

A magnificent performance, which could have yielded many more goals, was crowned when Holt struck nine minutes into the second half following Sean Scannell’s pass as Forest’s winless streak was extended to eight matches.

Town, meanwhile, were more concerned with a rather more welcome statistic, taking their run without a loss to seven games.

Hailing the display, Chris Powell said: “Some of our football, our wing play and our finishing was a real joy. I was really proud of all the players because, even in the 93rd and 94th minute, we were putting our bodies on the line to try to keep a clean sheet and that’s the attitude that will take us forward.”

November 26, 2005: Huddersfield 2 Forest 1

Two goals in five first-half minutes secured victory for Huddersfield against nine-man Forest.

Danny Schofield raced onto Danny Adams’ through-ball and lobbed Forest keeper Paul Gerrard to put the hosts ahead.

Andy Booth headed in from close range to make it 2-0 before substitute Jack Lester pulled one back with a lob.

Lester then picked up two bookings and Forest captain Ian Breckin received a straight red card minutes later for hauling down Gary Taylor-Fletcher.

December 13, 1999: Forest 1 Huddersfield 3

Three goals in eight minutes clinched Lou Macari’s Huddersfield’s third successive win and moved them off the bottom of Division One.

A brace from Kevin Gallen and another for Peter Ndlovu - his third in two games since his loan move from Birmingham - dented Forest’s hopes of moving into the top three.

All David Platt’s men had to show for their efforts was an Andy Reid consolation strike.

Ndlovu opened the scoring with a stunning half-volley after 56 minutes.

It got worse for the home side four minutes later when Forest keeper Dave Beasant spilled a Gallen header.

Although Jon Dyson tried to claim the goal, the ball appeared to cross the line before his touch.

There was no doubt about the third as Gallen made the most of some slack defending before firing home after 64 minutes.

Forest, playing in front of their biggest crowd of the season of 28,372 after fans paid £5 a ticket, gave themselves hope four minutes later.

Town keeper Nico Vaesen spilled a long-range shot from David Prutton and Reid was on hand to score from close range.

But it was Town’s night.

October 2, 1971: Forest 1 Huddersfield 2

Wins were a rarity for Town in a desperate 1971-72 campaign which culminated in relegation from the old Division One, with victory by the Trent being just one of two on the road in that forgettable campaign.

It was a season when both were relegated, with Town propping up the rest after just six league wins.

Goals from strikers Frank Worthington and Jimmy Lawson gave Town the spoils at the City Ground for the second successive campaign as Ian Greaves moved up to the comparatively giddy heights of 14th.

Matt Gillies’ Forest won the reverse fixture later on that month in the West Riding with a 1-0 success in front of just 9,459.

Town’s only other Division One success away from home in 1971-72 arrived at Southampton.
