Huddersfield 1 Brighton 1: Town’s application and ‘steely way’ impress boss Robins

Town ended a run of three straight defeats, however, and Robins said: “It was important we put in a performance to put a brake on the run of results we’ve been having. On balance, I have to be happy with a point, but we could have had all three.

“I was pleased with the application and the steely way we set about our jobs.”

Brighton snatched a late point when Spanish right-back Bruno Saltor cancelled out Oliver Norwood’s opener.

Norwood, a Manchester United academy product, drilled a free-kick low into the bottom right corner from 25-yards after just six minutes. It came after Keith Andrews brought down Nahki Wells and is only the 18th goal the Seagulls have conceded away from home all season.

Norwood nearly repeated the trick from closer range on 61 minutes after Adam Clayton was brought down on the edge of the box.

Brighton’s Dunk was lucky not be sent off for the foul on Clayton having been booked in the first half.

This time Norwood went for the top left corer, but Seagulls’ goalkeeper Tomasz Kuszczak, another former Red Devil, parried and then a defender cleared.

Robins continued: “If we had taken another of the chances we would have been all right.

“We have been creating chances all season but just not been clinical enough.”

The Terriers’ boss refused to accept his side are safe yet from the drop, adding: “We said we needed four points from the Easter weekend fixtures, so we have to go to Yeovil on Monday and win.

“They are fighting for their lives, but we have the players who are capable of going there and getting three points.

“We fought hard and if we hadn’t switched off at the end we would have won the game. A draw was probably a fair result.”

Spanish defender Saltor burst between two defenders in the box to fire home on 83 minutes having been set up by Dunk, who thus made the most of the referee’s earlier leniency.
