Huddersfield 4 Bolton 1: Powell hails ‘great’ display from Huws

A win at Charlton on Tuesday was followed by a home victory against Bolton and Powell said: “We scored four but it probably could, and should, have been more.

“In the Championship you rarely have a 90-minute total performance but we got close to that with 85 minutes. If the players get anywhere near their potential they can be a real force.”

Town were rocked when Bolton took a third-minute lead through Liam Feeney but they battled back to level on the stroke of half-time through Emyr Huws.

Huws scored a second and set up another for Mustapha Carayol as Town cut loose in the second half, before Joel Lynch made it 4-1 late on as Bolton finished with 10 men.

Wales international Huws, on a season-long loan from Wigan, inspired Town’s first win of the season at The Valley on Tuesday and two goals and an assist saw off the visitors on Saturday.

Huws, playing catch-up with his fitness after an ankle injury, was a revelation and Powell said: “It was a great performance and he could have had a hat-trick.

“He didn’t have much of a pre-season so he is still not where he wants to be with his fitness and we’ve had to be careful with him.”

Huws played 45 minutes on Tuesday and came off against Bolton to a standing ovation after 77.

Bolton defender Derik Osede was sent off for a second bookable offence after bringing down Nahki Wells in the 89th minute.
