Huddersfield Town 2 Carlisle United 0: Town gain revenge over Carlisle

GARY Roberts's brilliant double just before half-time showed Huddersfield Town's heroic performance at Arsenal could have lasting benefits.

Winger Roberts was one of several Town players whose confidence was boosted by the narrow 2-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday.

Roberts scored with two carbon copy goals, both expertly supplied by Kevin Kilbane and almost grabbed a hat-trick in first-half stoppage time but his audacious 30-yard lobwent inches over.

Joey Gudjonsson, Anthony Pilkington and Roberts had their tails up and set about Carlisle right from the off.

Jamie McCombe's header was beaten away by Collin before Lee was felled on the edge of the box and Roberts bent a free-kick round the wall only for Collins to push away low down.

Carlisle hit back and Town goalkeeper Ian Bennett produced a superb double-stop when he kept out former Leeds defender Lubo Michalik's powerful 30-yard free-kick and turned away the rebound from Francois Zoko.

Seconds later Bennett was needed again, tipping over Zoko's header.

Carlisle, who slammed Town 4-0 at Brunton Park in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy Northern Area Final first leg, were able to restrict the home side after the break.
