Injuries to Sean Scannell and Jonathan Hogg plus James Vaughan serving the last of a three-game ban means the Terriers’ resources are depleted.

Powell would not go into details but there are a couple of other Town players in danger of missing the trip to Turf Moor through injury.

That could provide a chance to the likes of Flo Bojaj, William Boyle, Duane Holmes and Philip Billing against the Clarets.

Powell said: “I will have five or six Under-21s in the 18 (man squad). That is where we are at, at the moment.

“They will be up against some experienced players. But, sometimes, kids just go with it. Flo had three touches (on his debut against MK Dons) and yet set up one goal.”

Town will be up against it at Turf Moor, as Burnley have hit top form in recent weeks.

Powell added: “Burnley are doing very well. Their squad has been together for a long time, the majority of them at least.

“We understand how this league is and we want shy away from that. Most of our fans understand where we are at in terms of how we operate as a football club.”
