Huddersfield Town v Ipswich: Terriers need patience if they are to take flight like Swans

They host Ipswich Town tonight looking for a first win in eight Championship outings.

Rumblings of discontent have been heard in the stands in recent weeks with some fans calling for a more direct approach.

Robins, however, insists Huddersfield will stand by their doctrine and has urged supporters to get behind his players during the run-in.

The Town chief said: “I accept that results since the turn of the year have not been brilliant and those are my responsibility.

“We are at the start of a journey designed to produce good results and good performances. I am absolutely positive Swansea went through these teething troubles at times and I am also sure Brendan Rodgers went through the same thing at Liverpool last season when implementing a style of football that people maybe didn’t like. It made them nervous.

“We are some way away from that, and certainly light years from where Liverpool’s standard is, but we are on the start of a journey and we have to remember that.

“I remember clearly Swansea coming through. They were always great between the penalty areas but the criticism was they didn’t score enough goals.

“But they continued to progress at their own pace and got into the Premier League by getting Danny Graham in. Once in the top division, they recruited well with Michu and now (Wilfried) Bony.

“They have gone steadily at it and also sold players as they went along. Lads like Scott Sinclair and that money was reinvested.

“The thing with Swansea is they have kept a nucleus of players together – Leon Britton, Ashley Williams and players like that. Those players have been through a lot with Swansea.

“It is an interesting model and something we would look to try and emulate.”

Top scorer James Vaughan, ruled out for the season last week, will undergo an operation on Thursday to remove a cyst from his knee. He is expected to return to training later this month but will not feature for Town until August.
