Huddersfield transfer news: Terriers eye keeper signing with Lee Nicholls to undergo shoulder surgery, confirms Mark Fotheringham

HUDDERSFIELD TOWN head coach Mark Fotheringham says that influential goalkeeper Lee Nicholls is to undergo shoulder surgery - with the club looking at bringing in an experienced replacement in the 'next 24 to 48 hours.'

Nicholls missed last weekend's FA Cup tie at Preston North End with Aussie keeper Nicholas Bilokapic handed a league debut in Saturday's 1-1 draw with Yorkshire rivals Hull City.

The rookie performed well, only to be finally beaten in the eighth minute of stoppage-time from Oscar Estupinan.

On Nicholls, Fotheringham said: "Lee Nicholls is going to need a shoulder problem. We will discuss it with the medical guys.

"What I will say is that Dave Baldwin and Leigh Bromby are actively looking for a keeper. We know the situation we are in, we had a number one and two young guys supporting him.

"But we just feel we owe it to the squad to bring in an experienced keeper and we are going to be on that in the next 24 to 48 hours."

The game saw Bilokapic, Matt Lowton, Scott High and Matt Pearson make their first league appearances of the season and all did well, with the return of Pearson representing a significant moment in Town's season potentially.

Fotheringham added: "It was great to see him (Pearson). He does in there with real authority and is a leader and everything he does is with a calmness. And he knows exactly what it takes to win games in this league. The more winners we have in the team moving forward, the better."

On a cruel finale for Town, who saw two precious points squandered after Estupinan cancelled out Michal Helik's 21st-minute opener for the visitors, the Town chief continued: "We are just gutted as the team invested so much energy in the game and the performance levels were threw the roof.

"It was really soft in the way we conceded it. All the lads in there are very angry with each other, but that's a good sign as it shows that they are able to shoulder responsibility.

"In the first half, I thought we actually played really well in terms of how we were on the ball as well.

"If we are being honest, we could have put the game out of sight. It's the big moments, but overall, I thought we looked a really solid, hard-working team who were very comfortable on the ball for large periods and gave Hull problems.

"Hull are an in-form team and Liam (Rosenior) has done an amazing job and he has big-name players playing with confidence. But they looked like a frustrated side and the quietest I've seen the stadium here. It was a real credit to the lads.

"We had a young keeper in his third game and he was absolutely terrific and he has to take big confidence from that moving forward.

"You could see how disappointed he was (conceding) and that's a good sign as well. You could see how much it means to him."
