The Tigers moved six points clear of the relegation zone with the result and Adkins was pleased with what he saw from his team.

“We were good in the second half against a very good Aston Villa side,” Adkins told Hull City's official website.

“Villa had threats from set-pieces which we knew they would, but we dealt with those and I thought Michael Dawson was outstanding and made some very good defensive clearances. He led by example.

“We were the dominant side on the front foot in that second half, but we were also pleased with the clean sheet and that is massively important.

“It’s an important point and another game undefeated at home, but it’s a shame that we couldn’t get all three points. Our performances have been consistently good but we’ve spoken about our conversion rate not being as high as it needs to be for the amount of chances that we’re creating.

“It is a good point, though, against a very good team that is currently in the play-off places and chasing automatic promotion.”
