Hull City 0 Sheffield Wednesday 0: Carlos Carvalhal furious at Fernando Forestieri's red card

Sheffield Wednesday's Fernando Forestieri (floor) is sent off by referee Tim Robinson.

Referee Tim Robinson, who five minutes earlier had booked Forestieri for a foul on Andy Robertson, showed him a second yellow as he went down when challenged by Hull defender Michael Dawson.

The Wednesday manager felt his player had no option as if he had not gone down he could have been badly injured by Dawson’s challenge.

“We have had very bad decisions from the referee in the last three matches,” claimed Carvalhal.

He also said that Dawson’s reaction showed that he thought he had fouled Forestieri.

“It you saw the image on TV you will see the reaction of the defender, he apologies to the referee and to Fernando.

“It was an unbelievable situation, we lose Fernando for two games. If Fernando did not jump in that situation he would break his leg.”

Forestieri had been responsible for the best moment of the first half when his shot from distance came back off the bar and Carvalhal felt his side were the better in the opening 45 minutes.

“Our defence was fantastic in the game. In the first half I think we were more dangerous than Hull. In the second half Hull City were better than us.”

Hull dominated for long periods, particularly in the second half, and were unlucky when Sam Clucas saw his shot come back off the post.

Their best effort in the opening period came from fellow winger Robert Snodgrass who controlled a deep ball to the back post and shot from a tight angle but Kieren Westwood was able to block the close-range attempt.

The draw moved them two points clear at the top of the Sky Bet Championship table while Wednesday strengthened their hold on sixth place in the standings.

Hull manager Steve Bruce described the red card as harsh and felt the referee had got the decision wrong.

“I think I would have been disappointed if it had been one of our players,” said Bruce.

“I think it is harsh to get the red card, he is entitled to get out of the way (of Dawson’s challenge).

Bruce felt his side dominated in all departments apart from finishing off the many chances they created.

“In the second half I thought we played very very well. I felt we needed to take one of the chances, we’ve created enough, but did not get that vital goal.

“If there was any team that was going to win it I thought it was going to be us.”
