Hull City 5 Rotherham United 1: Tigers ready to atone, says Snodgrass

ROBERT SNODGRASS does not exactly have happy memories of the play-offs.

The Scot was at Leeds United when the Yorkshire club battled through to the League One end-of-season promotion deciders in 2009.

One of football’s fiercest rivalries lay in wait and, for United, it was semi-final heartache as Millwall triumphed 2-1 over two legs.

Now, though, Snodgrass has a big opportunity to make amends when Hull City head to Derby County on Saturday lunchtime for a first-leg tie that could go a long way towards identifying who will face either Sheffield Wednesday or Brighton & Hove Albion at Wembley on May 28.

“Derby will probably be thinking they have got the edge over us,” said Snodgrass, about the only side to complete the league double over the Tigers. “But when I look at my team-mates and I look at their team, I think we have got the edge. Derby will be right up for it but the pressure is on them, really. They know they have got to get a result to come back here for the return.”

As for whether his previous play-off experience will help at the Ipro and then in the return on Tuesday, May 17, Snodgrass added: “These games are frantic, on the edge. Especially when it is a Leeds v Millwall game and people are getting whacked with chairs. That is the way it is. There was real hatred there.

“Derby have got two over us this season so I cannot wait for the game. I am desperate for it because I want to beat them.

“We need to be right up for it. There is no hiding place. Whoever wants it the most will go up. That is why Burnley and Middlesbrough have been promoted.”
