Hull City closing in on appointment of Liam Rosenior - who is expected to be confirmed as head coach on Wednesday

HULL CITY are close to confirming the appointment of Liam Rosenior as head coach.

The Tigers have reportedly verbally agreed a deal with the 38-year-old, who left Derby earlier this season following the permanent appointment of Paul Warne.

He had been in interim charge of the Rams at the start of the campaign.

Rosenior is expected to sign a contract on Wednesday ahead of taking training for the first time on Thursday.

Caretaker boss Andy Dawson will take charge of City for an eighth and final time in Tuesday evening's Championship home game with Middlesbrough at the MKM Stadium - with Rosenior having a watching brief from the stands ahead of being confirmed as Shota Arveladze's full time replacement.

Rosenior spent five seasons as a player at City and made 144 league appearances in his time with the Tigers.

City travel to Millwall on Saturday.

Dawson’s first match in interim charge was back on September 30 – a 2-0 home loss to Luton.

Hull subsequently approached Portuguese coach Pedro Martins, only for a deal to see him take over at the MKM Stadium collapse after verbally agreeing a three-year contract.

Martins had attended the 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic in early October, watching the game from the owner's box, while also visiting the club’s City's training ground at Cottingham, only to have a change of heart and rebuff City’s offer.

City find themselves in 18th place ahead of Tuesday’s game with Boro, having lost five of their last six home matches.
