Paul Cook – formerly Wigan Athletic and Portsmouth manager – has reportedly turned down the chance to take the vacant managers job at Sheffield Wednesday.

The 53-year-old revealed last week that initial talks with the Owls had fallen flat but has now turned down an approach from the club to manage them on a short-term basis, report The Athletic.

Finally, a loan of £10 million by Northampton Borough Council to Northampton Town "demonstrated poor decision making" and had a "near-complete lack of an approved business case", an independent report published on Wednesday evening has concluded.

The report, carried out by external auditor KPMG, has listed a series of recommendations following its investigations. It has been published in full on the council's website.

KPMG was looking into the background of the borough council loaning public money to the football club in 2013 and 2014.

Shrewsbury Town are expected to win the race to sign Sunderland striker Will Grigg.

Reports suggested earlier this week that the former Wigan man was the subject of interest from with MK Dons and Salford City.

Grigg has agreed a deal with the Shrews that will see him move to New Meadow for the remainder of the campaign – according to Football Insider.
