Hull City: Bruce reveals Cairney faces lengthy spell on sidelines

Cairney went off with suspected knee ligament damage on 37 minutes with Bruce - whose side were reduced to ten men in the 79th minute after sub Paul McKenna kicked out at home skipper Rob Jones - labelling the challenge as a “horror tackle”.
Bruce, who saw his side amazing surrender a 2-0 lead to lose out 3-2 in the see-saw second-round clash - with two-goal Dave Syers grabbing a stoppage-time winner to seal a remarkable comeback from the hosts - said: “I’ve seen the tackle back and it was a horror tackle.

“I’m not so sure, though - he could be looking at three to six months if there’s damage.
“It was more than reckless. Nobody enjoyed a tackle as much as me, but there was an intensity there.”
