MK Dons 0 Hull City 2 - Tigers move second but Bruce insists best is yet to come

Goals from Ahmed Elmohamady and Mohammed Diame earned the Tigers a third league win on the bounce as they seek an immediate return to the top flight.

And Bruce said: “We know what we’re capable of but we should have been a bit more clinical with our final pass and then we may have been a bit more comfortable towards the end of the game.

“There’s a long way to go because we’re only 14 games into the season, but we have had a good start to the season.

“It means nothing, being top of the league in October, there’s a long way to go before the daffodils come up so let’s wait and see where we are then.

“The club is now starting to lift the doom and gloom and that wasn’t easy, but there’s still a long way to go.

“All credit to MK Dons, they keep the ball well and this isn’t an easy place to come and win.

“It was a good performance away from home, we can play better but to put in a 2-0 win away from home is very pleasing.

“I thought we were comfortable and I can’t really remember McGregor making a save.

Hull moved went ahead on 19 minutes from their first meaningful attack of the game. Despite appeals from the Dons for an offside in the build-up against Jake Livermore, Elmohamady eventually sidefooted home from close range.

And after the teams traded blows in equal measure in search of the game’s second goal it was the Tigers who eventually made the breakthrough - former West Ham midfielder Diame with a well-taken curling strike.

Boss Karl Robinson was furious with referee Graham Scott.

“We did not deserve to lose, one man has cost us, but I can’t say his name,” he said.

“The fans thought that was one of the worst officiating displays they’ve seen - but I can’t say that.

“When I got told that Jake Livermore wasn’t interfering with play for their first goal I couldn’t believe it. He’s made a movement to the ball and the referee has got that wrong.

“But I can only go on facts and the facts are that we played well, and we deserved more than we got.

“There was a tremendous vibe and unity in the stadium. We need to show that aggression that we had last season again.

“All of my players deserve a mention and I’m proud of them all.

“We don’t have the money to spend but the fans understand where we are as a club.”
