Proschwitz jets in for medical on £2m move to Tigers

The Tigers have agreed a fee – which could rise as high as £2m depending on certain clauses being activated – with the German striker’s club, SC Paderborn, after he spent a day with the rest of the squad at their warm weather training camp in Portugal last week.

Manager Steve Bruce has had Proschwitz on his radar since being in charge at Sunderland and sees the 25-year-old, who is 6ft 3in, as being tailor-made for the English game.

The striker will undergo a medical today, while talks over personal terms are also planned but it is not expected there will be any late problems.

Proschwitz, who scored 17 goals in 33 games for Paderborn last season, was wanted by newly-promoted German top flight club, Furth.

However, the lure of being part of City’s push for the Premier League is believed to have swayed the striker towards East Yorkshire.

Provided there are no late hold-ups, Proschwitz’s height is expected to add an extra attacking dimension to Hull.

Last term, Matty Fryatt ploughed a lone furrow up front for much of the time as then manager Nick Barmby opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation that, even allowing for the 5ft 10in frontman netting 16 goals, led to him expressing reservations about a lack of support.

The Tigers’ top scorer felt a lack of presence alongside him was a major factor in the club netting just 47 goals in 46 games as they missed out on a play-off place by seven points.

Proschwitz’s impending capture will take Bruce’s tally of signings to three following the earlier signing of goalkeepers Ben Amos and Eldin Jakupovic.

His arrival also underlines the continued financial backing of owners, Assem and Ehab Allam, with the fee – providing it reaches the upper echelons of the agreed £2m – being the club’s most substantial since the Premier League days.

Stephen Hunt’s arrival in August, 2009, was the last big-money arrival from Reading at £3.5m.
