Tigers fail in £8m Rhodes bid

Hull City manager Steve Bruce is weighing up whether to make an improved offer for Jordan Rhodes after sources in Lancashire suggested Blackburn Rovers had turned down an £8m bid.

The former Huddersfield Town striker is wanted by the Tigers as a replacement for Shane Long, who recently joined Southampton in a £12m deal.

Rovers are keen to keep hold of Rhodes, who only signed a new contract at Ewood Park in July, but an offer of £10m could tempt owners, Venky’s.

Huddersfield sold Rhodes, who has netted 52 goals in 92 league appearances for Blackburn, for £8m in the summer transfer window of 2012.

Meanwhile, City have blamed an administrative mix-up for Dundee United not yet having been paid £1m as part of the transfer that brought Andrew Robertson to the Premier League last month.

The Scottish club should have received the payment last Friday but the Tigers sent the money to the Premier League and not the Football Association, as should be the case when a transfer is between clubs from two different countries.
